The technology will be fascinating to space nerds (like me) and will doubtless lead to a “they should have chosen this method” multilateral argument on the ‘Net. Nonetheless, the real key is the funding source and ultimate business case to sustain the effort.

For example – for all of SpaceX’s grand visions of Martian colonisation, the company has initially been set up as an LEO launch services and cargo/passenger delivery business. That is so that there is a revenue stream to support the more ambitious project. If there is no proposed revenue stream to support Golden Spike’s proposals then it is unlikely to be sustainable and I wouldn’t even put odds on its achieving a single landing.
